Pumpkin Perks

It’s inevitable. Every year the days shorten, the air cools, the leaves change, and our souls become giddy with the promise of a new season. Fall – the season of holiday gatherings, outdoor spectaculars, and the delicious flavors of autumn harvest. If you’re like most, you’ve embraced the grand return of all things fall by indulging in one of your seasonal favorites: pumpkin.
A standard winter vegetable in Italy, the pumpkin is referred to by southern Italians as “cocozza” or, as a more general term for squashes and gourds, “zucca."
Although not native to Italy, pumpkins can be found in dozens of varieties from north to south, used as both a peasant food and a delicacy.
